Ed interviewed right after the 2020 presidential election.

In addition to the essays I have written on Medium (links there) I have made appearances in Boston television, radio, newspapers, and magazines. Most recently, I am a regular occasional guest on WBUR's Radio Boston for political analysis, I have been on TV a few times, and I have written several op-eds for Commonwealth Magazine. Most recently I have written a piece for Commonwealth and been on their podcast.

Magazines

Commonwealth Beacon [Magazine] (1/2/2024): Why is Massachusetts Always in a State of Emergency? I wrote an 2,500 word piece about the Civil Defense Act, gubernatorial power, and how our lazy legislature is outsourcing its hardest problems to governors.

Commonwealth Magazine (3/9/2023): DiZoglio’s audit of Legislature seems straight out of Hollywood I wrote an 1,200 word piece about the bold gambit of the new state auditor to try to open up the Massachusetts legislature, and whether it was a good idea.

Commonwealth Magazine (7/17/2022): MBTA turnaround taking longer than we want I wrote an 1,800 word piece about the state of the troubled MBTA, what has been accomplished and what Baker’s strategy was.

Commonwealth Magazine (5/24/2022): The Book of Baker In May, Charlie Baker and his former Chief of Staff Steve Kadish wrote a handbook on how to improve government. But I saw larger, important ideas on how and why this administration succeeded. Commonwealth recuited two people to write a positive and negative review. Mine ran first.

Commonwealth Magazine (2/18/2022): Massachusetts citizenship and the importance of state power. I wrote that the proposed law to give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants opened the door to a new Massachusetts citizenship.

Commonwealth Magazine (3/24/2021): Why states have a problem with tech I wrote about recent failures in state vaccination web technology, and what the real reasons are that Massachusetts and other state governments struggle with tech issues.

Commonwealth Magazine (11/2019): Is Baker launching a new state political party? A new centrist SuperPAC suggests he is. Oddly, the Boston Herald did a whole piece about what I said, and everyone weighed in on it, though they didn’t mention me at all.

Columbia Journalism Review (9/2014): Why were Massachusetts reporters slow to probe the health exchange meltdown? Trudy Lieberman interviewed me about my Health Connector Autopsy Report and whether the Boston media had missed the significance of the story.

Commonwealth Magazine (8/2018): Baker's Creative Friction This 1500-word piece was about how the governor creates value for Republicans - and everyone else - by creating friction with Democrats and their special interests on Beacon Hill.
